Hnahthial Post | October 7, 2025: Pu Malsawmzuala Ralte, Chairman of the Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), and Pu Jonathan Lalremruata, OSD to the Chief Minister, today met with Dr. Mumin Chen, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre, India to discuss opportunities for Mizo youth to work in Taiwan.
Recognising the importance of overseas employment for the younger generation, the Government of Mizoram and the Chief Minister have actively pursued initiatives to create such opportunities. The Chief Minister has also engaged with the previous Taiwan Ambassador on the matter.
Following up on last week’s meeting with OSD to CM Pu Jonathan Lalremruata, it was agreed today that 50 Mizo youths be sent to Taiwan this year under the India–Taiwan Labor Mobility Agreement 2024. MYC will facilitate the recruitment process and coordinate the necessary requirements as per the agreement.
The employment programme is open to both men and women above 18 years of age who pass the medical fitness test. Employers in Taiwan will bear the travel and related expenses of selected candidates. The Taiwan Government has in place a robust framework for the welfare and protection of foreign workers (Protection of Foreign Workers’ Rights in Taiwan), which will also cover Mizo youth working there.
Dr. Mumin Chen also highlighted that Taiwan and Mizoram share similarities in food culture, climate and geography. Notably, Ambassador Mumin and Pu Jonathan have published an article about Mizoram in Chinese in Rhythms, a prominent Chinese magazine.
The Mizoram Youth Commission will soon release detailed guidelines and requirements for applicants seeking employment in Taiwan.
