Chief Minister and Railways Minister Discuss key Railway Project and Service Improvements for Mizoram

Hnahthial Post | November 24, 2025, Aizawl: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma today met Union Railway Minister Pu Ashwini Vaishnaw at Railway Bhawan, New Delhi, for a focused discussion on major railway projects and service enhancements for Mizoram. The key points of the meeting are as follows:

1. Sairang–Thenzawl Railway Extension
The Chief Minister highlighted the urgent need to finalise the alignment of the Sairang–Thenzawl railway in view of the ongoing Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan. The Railway Minister assured that the alignment review would be completed before February 2026.

2. Sairang–Guwahati Train Timing
To improve passenger convenience, the Chief Minister requested that trains from Sairang reach Guwahati by around 4:30 AM. The Railway Minister agreed to adjust the train timings accordingly.

3. Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani Express
Noting that travel time to Delhi currently stands at 42 hours and 20 minutes, the Chief Minister sought faster routing of the Rajdhani Express. The Railway Minister agreed and confirmed that a shorter and improved route would reduce travel time by approximately 4 hours. The Chief Minister also proposed increasing the frequency of the Rajdhani from once a week to twice weekly, to which the Railway Minister assured active follow-up.

4. Kolkata–Sairang Train Schedule
The Chief Minister requested rescheduling of the Kolkata–Sairang train—which presently arrives at 7:45 PM—so that it reaches Sairang earlier, around 3:00 PM. The Railway Minister accepted this proposal.

5. Silchar–Bairabi–Sairang Passenger Train Flag-Off
The Chief Minister urged formal flagging off of the extension of the Silchar–Bairabi passenger service up to Sairang. The Railway Minister agreed and expressed his willingness to personally flag off the extended service at a suitable time.

6. Integration of Mizoram ILP Portal with IRCTC
To strengthen ILP monitoring and simplify travel formalities for visitors, the Chief Minister proposed integrating the Mizoram ILP Portal with the IRCTC ticketing system. The Railway Minister agreed to direct IRCTC to examine and act on the proposal.

7. Warehouse/Cold Storage Facility Near Sairang Station
Responding to the request from the Adviser to the Chief Minister, the Railway Minister agreed to the establishment of a Warehouse/Cold Storage facility near Sairang Railway Station to support agricultural and logistical needs. He asked the state government to identify a suitable site.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Handholding Policy), and Pi R. Lalrodingi, OSD to the Chief Minister.
