Hnahthial Post | July 31, 2026, Aizawl: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who also holds the Law portfolio, today attended the Freshers' Social & Felicitation Programme organised by the Student Bar Council of Government Mizoram Law College for newly admitted students and graduating students.
During the programme, the Student Bar Council submitted a request for a new college bus, stating that the existing bus has been in service since 2005. The Chief Minister assured the students that the Government would provide a new bus for the College.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that as the world continues to advance, greater importance is being attached to individual rights, making the rule of law increasingly vital. Consequently, the demand for legal professionals continues to grow.
He said that members of the legal profession play a crucial role in upholding the three fundamental pillars of a democratic society—individual liberty, the rule of law, and democratic governance. Lawyers are not merely interpreters of the law but are also guardians of the Constitution, protectors of citizens' rights, and defenders of justice. He therefore encouraged students to recognise the wide range of career opportunities available to law graduates.
The Chief Minister reminded the graduating students that they would ultimately be judged not by their academic degrees but by their professional conduct and performance. He urged them to continue learning throughout their careers and to uphold integrity and ethical standards in both their professional and personal lives. He also congratulated the freshers and wished them success in their legal studies.
The Chief Minister further gave an overview of the functioning of the Law Department under the Government of Mizoram, highlighted career opportunities for law graduates in government service, stressed the importance of diligence and precision in legal interpretation, and spoke on significant laws relating to the protection of Mizoram and its people.
Student Bar Council President Lalmihriata welcomed the gathering. Principal Dr. Esther L. Chhangte expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister for attending the programme and informed the gathering that the College currently has 180 students and 11 teaching faculty members. She also noted that all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the College are women.
