Hnahthial Post | July 4, 2026, Hnahthial: The Draft Electoral Roll for the 29–South Tuipui Assembly Constituency under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 of the Election Commission of India was officially published today by the District Election Officer, Hnahthial, Pi K. Vanlalruati, at DC Meeting Hall, Hnahthial.
A total of 16,478 Enumeration Forms were distributed across the South Tuipui Assembly Constituency, of which 15,443 forms have been digitized and incorporated into the Draft Electoral Roll.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Election Officer expressed satisfaction over the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll and commended the dedicated efforts of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and election officials in successfully completing the enumeration process. While the enumeration phase has concluded, she noted that the Claims and Objections Phase is about to commence and urged all BLOs and Village Councils (VCs) to remain active in their respective jurisdictions and identify any eligible persons whose names may have been inadvertently omitted from the Draft Roll.
She further informed that hearings would be conducted for applicants seeking inclusion in the electoral roll whose names do not appear in the Draft Roll. Besides the applicants themselves, she emphasized the important role of community leaders during the hearing process. Stating that the hearings are not intended as occasions for embarrassment nor confrontation encouraging all community leaders to freely present any relevant information before or during the hearings.
Electoral Registration Officer, Pu. Zothanmawia Khiangte stated that a considerable number of names have been deleted from the electoral roll during the current Special Intensive Revision, with the majority comprising deceased persons and those who have permanently shifted their residence. He further explained that individuals categorized as "unmapped"—those whose names cannot be traced in the 2005 electoral roll or whose family linkage cannot be established—will also be required to appear for hearings. Even if such individuals have casted votes on multiple occasions after 2005, they will be deleted from the electoral roll unless they are able to produce valid evidence in accordance with the law during the hearing. He appealed to community leaders not to extend protection or support to persons who are liable to be removed from the electoral roll without legal justification.
Election Officer, Pu S. Kaptluanga stated that the foundation of free and fair elections is a clean and accurate electoral roll and emphasized that the revision process must be conducted strictly in accordance with the law, without bias or favoritism. He also appealed to NGOs, church leaders, and those present to ensure that persons who are not genuine citizens of India, including those who may have entered from neighbouring countries do not secure inclusion in the electoral roll.
The publication programme of the SIR 2026 Draft Electoral Roll was attended by representatives of political parties, Village Council leaders, Booth Level Officers serving within Hnahthial Town, and representatives of various non-governmental organizations.
Prior to the commencement of SIR 2026, the 29–South Tuipui Assembly Constituency had 16,478 registered electors across 27 polling stations. Following completion of the enumeration phase, 1,035 names were deleted from the electoral roll, comprising 574 deceased electors, 358 persons who had shifted their residence, 32 duplicate entries already existing in the electoral roll, and 71 persons whose whereabouts could not be ascertained.
According to the published Draft Electoral Roll, 15,443 electors have been digitized from the Enumeration Forms received. Of these, 6,376 electors were already included in the 2005 electoral roll, while 7,884 electors were identified through family linkage although their names did not appear in the 2005 electoral roll. 1,183 persons appearing in the draft roll, whose names or whose ancestors' names could not be traced in the 2005 electoral roll, will be required to appear for hearings before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).
As part of the rationalization of polling stations, Hnahthial-II (covering Bazar and Kanaan) and Hnahthial-III (covering Model Veng and Venglai) have been reorganised and a new polling station, Hnahthial-VII, has been created to serve Kanaan and Venglai. Hnahthial-IV (covering Chanmari and Lungleng) has also been rationalized in accordance with Village Council boundaries. Under the revised arrangement, Part of Lungleng has been merged into Hnahthial-III, which will now comprise Model Veng and Part of Lungleng, while Hnahthial-IV will now consist of Chanmari and the remaining Part of Lungleng.
As per the published Draft electoral roll, the polling station with the highest number of electors is Cherhlun-I with 922 electors, while New Kawnpui has the lowest number, with 56 electors.
The Claims and Objections Phase for inclusion of omitted names, correction of entries, or other revisions to the Draft Electoral Roll will remain open from 4th July, 2026 to 4th August 2026. During this period, eligible persons seeking inclusion or correction of their particulars may obtain the prescribed forms from their respective Booth Level Officers and submit the completed applications through them.
The Final Electoral Roll is scheduled to be published on 6th September, 2026.
