Final Electoral Roll for 29-South Tuipui Assembly Constituency under SIR 2026 Released; Total Electors 15,522

Hnahthial Post | Sep 8, 2026, Hnahthial: Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Pu Zothanmawia Khiangte released the Final Electoral Roll for the 29-South Tuipui Assembly Constituency under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 yesterday at DC Meeting Hall, Hnahthial. The program was chaired by Pu S. Kaptluanga, Election Officer, and was attended by leaders of the Village Councils (VC), Hnahthial Town Booth Level Officers (BLOs), representatives from the Mizoram Journalists Association (MJA), political parties, and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Expressing satisfaction over the successful completion of SIR 2026, ERO Pu Zothanmawia Khiangte highlighted key aspects of the exercise. He observed during the hearings that many citizens lacked adequate documentation to prove their Indian citizenship and stated that the primary reasons for conducting hearings were discrepancies in the spelling of names of individuals or their fathers compared to the 2005 SIR, as well as unrealistically close age gaps between parents and children or siblings as listed on birth certificates. Expressing concern over instances where individuals held official government-issued birth certificates despite being foreign-born, he clarified that although the DC Office issues these certificates, they are never processed without a recommendation from the respective Village Councils. He therefore called upon the VCs, church and community leaders to unite in safeguarding the nation and community.

Election Officer Pu S. Kaptluanga noted that the SIR was a time-consuming and labor-intensive process and attributed the successful completion, despite manpower shortages, to the dedication of the BLOs and staff of the Election Branch, while extending gratitude to local community leaders for their cooperation.

Prior to the implementation of SIR 2026, the 29-South Tuipui Assembly Constituency had 16,478 electors across 27 polling stations. Following the enumeration phase, a total of 1,035 individuals were deleted from this initial figure: 574 deceased, 358 permanently shifted, 32 duplicate entries, and 71 untraceable individuals. From the distributed enumeration forms, the Draft Electoral Roll registered 15,443 digitized electors. Subsequently, the ERO and AERO conducted hearings between July 22 and July 29 for 1,183 individuals whose names or ancestors' names were not in the 2005 roll, as well as 1,795 individuals affected by mapping errors.

In the Final Electoral Roll, 515 new electors were included via Form 6, while 68 individuals were enrolled due to shifting into the constituency, bringing the total new inclusions to 583. Furthermore, 418 electors were deleted post-hearing and 86 were deleted due to relocation, resulting in a total of 504 deletions from the Draft Roll. Overall, the Final Electoral Roll reflects a net increase of 79 electors (0.51%) compared to the Draft roll.

The Final Electoral Roll now comprises 7,624 male electors and 7,898 female electors, bringing the total number of eligible voters in the 29-South Tuipui Assembly Constituency to 15,522. Among the polling stations, Cherhlun-I records the highest number of electors at 956, while New Kawnpui records the lowest at 62.

Additionally, following the rationalization of polling stations in Hnahthial-II (Bazar and Kanaan) and Hnahthial-III (Model Veng and Venglai), a new polling station - Hnahthial-VII has been created for Kanaan and Venglai. Consequently, the constituency now has a total of 28 polling stations.
